Energy-Efficient and Low-Carbon Solutions for a Future Sports Center in Porvoo
Future Energy Hub – Kokonniemi Next Generation Sports and Energy Lab is a forward-looking development project that invites companies to create, pilot, and scale energy-efficient, low-carbon solutions in connection with the future Kokonniemi sports and leisure center in Porvoo. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026, marking the first steps toward a new-generation destination for sports, wellbeing, and sustainable urban development.
The project offers companies a practical innovation environment where ideas can be turned into pilots, references, and new commercial opportunities. While solutions developed through the project cannot be implemented within the current Developing Kokonniemi project, they can create a strong foundation for future investments and real-world applications.
By bringing together companies, the City of Porvoo, research organizations, and other key stakeholders, the initiative creates a collaborative platform for solutions that improve energy efficiency, reduce emissions, and open new market opportunities.

Running from 2026 to 2028, the project is funded by the Regional Council of Uusimaa through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). It is implemented by Posintra Ltd. in partnership with Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences.
The goal is to develop a scalable operating model and a virtual simulation environment that enable solutions to be evaluated before investment decisions are made. The project will generate tested concepts, new energy-efficient services, and new commercial opportunities for participating companies.
