A sustainable future is created together. We need more and deeper cooperation than ever before, especially between the public and private sectors. The WaterHoop project addresses this challenge from the perspective of water use.

WaterHoop is a phased project related to industrial wastewater treatment and the circular economy. The aim is to develop and test resource-efficient solutions for the recycling, purification, separation, and automation of industrial wastewater and process water, which will reduce environmental impacts, improve resource efficiency, and create new business opportunities for sustainable industry.

The project is based in Kilpilahti, Porvoo, home to the largest oil refining and petrochemical cluster in the Nordic countries, where more than 40 companies operate, providing thousands of jobs, but also one of Finland’s largest single sources of CO2 emissions.
