WeCircle – Sustainable Growth from a Circular Economy

Sustainable growth from a circular economy

The WeCircle project promotes the skills and knowledge required to make the transition to a circular economy among industrial and manufacturing SMEs in the Porvoo economic area and its environs. This aim ties in with the green transition already happening in the Kilpilahti industrial area and the objective of that project to develop Kilpilahti into a world-class hub for the bio- and circular economy. The project will be implemented by Posintra Oy and Laurea University of Applied Sciences Ltd.

WeCircle

Background

The circular economy is fundamental to adapting production and consumption towards a sustainable future. It’s also a significant opportunity for Finland to create new business, jobs, and improve well-being. The circular economy is particularly important for Uusimaa, where most of Finland’s material flows are generated and where there is a large amount of residual industrial and waste streams that can be harnessed for the circular economy. WeCircle – Sustainable Growth from the Circular Economy is devoted to getting industrial SMEs in the Porvoo economic area to switch to the circular economy while simultaneously helping key companies in the Kilpilahti industrial area make the green transition, by linking their future needs with potential new business opportunities for the Porvoo SMEs. This work supports the carbon neutrality goals of the City of Porvoo and places Uusimaa at the vanguard of the circular economy.

Project objectives

  • To offer a practical workshop and training package that will increase knowledge and skills related to the circular economy and green transition among industrial and manufacturing SMEs.
  • To tap into Kilpilahti’s green transition by acting as as a broker to find potential new business opportunities there for SMEs in the region.
  • To take concrete measures to implement a circular economy in 4–5 companies –or working with them to do so.
  • Create a common shared approach to the circular economy by drawing up a regional development map.
  • Communicate effectively about the circular economy in Porvoo and Uusimaa to ensure its visibility.

Project information

The project will run from 1.4.2023 to 30.9.2025 and is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The total budget of the project is €547,747, and the Posintra sub-project will contribute €298 824 of that.
