How can you find your professional field? What are the job descriptions of different jobs?
Many paths to profession events share information about the professions and educational opportunities of various fields. The theme of the first evening, held on 24 October, was the field of technology. Service field will be the theme on 21 November and the health care sector field on 12 December.
“It is easier to make career choices when you know your possibilities. Many young people, especially, are looking for direction and need a great deal of information to support them in decision making,” says Johanna Oljemark, a student advisor at Careeria.
Plenty of jobs in the field of technology
The visitors of the technology field’s event were Miia Kettunen and Vesa Lehtola from Neste, Careeria’s account manager Petri Simander, logistics teacher Aku Ilomäki and student advisor Johanna Oljemark. The panel discussion was led by the One-Stop Guidance Centre’s coordinator Sanni Einovaara.
Posintra’s project manager Anne Wetterstrand and Juha Westerlund from City of Porvoo’s Youth Services were also present in the event.
The visitors each shared their view on studying and working in the field of technology.
“There are plenty of jobs in the technology field. For example, students of logistics, machine and production technology and construction fields are usually employed straight from school,” Oljemark said.
The field has room for many different kinds of professionals. Through Porvoo Careeria, you can study e.g. transport and logistics field, facility management, machine and production technology, refrigeration technology, process industry, construction and surface treatment, electricity and automation technology and building services.
You can study either online, at school or through an apprenticeship. The contents of studies will be designed based on the student’s needs and students can start their studies at any time of the year.
Neste has many jobs
Neste Oyj was the guest company of the Many paths to profession evening. Neste is the largest private employer in Porvoo.
“New jobs become available for technology professionals in Kilpilahti all the time. We need professionals from a wide range of fields,” Vesa Lehtola said.
Lehtola said that Neste invests in the induction of new employees and holds plenty of training events. Neste has excellent advancement and development opportunities. The employees can also transfer from one unit to another, for example to Naantali or abroad.
Service and nursing fields as themes of the next evenings
The Many paths to profession event held on Thursday, 21 November, from 4 pm to 6 pm, focuses on the service industry and, especially, hospitality sector’s jobs. The employer guests of the evening are representatives from Zum Beispiel and RTG Sales Oy.
On Thursday 21 December, the evening’s theme will be the health care sector.
The Many paths to profession evenings are collaborative events by One-Stop Guidance Centre, Careeria and Posintra and they are held at the One-Stop Guidance Centre in the WSOY building.
