How do you successfully recruit your first employee?

When taking on your first employee, you should consider a number of factors: what exactly are our recruitment needs, how do we communicate these, and where do we recruit from? And there are issues to consider after the recruitment too, such as pay, safety, insurance, employment contracts, tax, and induction.

As an employer, you have legal obligations towards both your employees and the authorities, so these need to be checked carefully. For example, the EU’s Directive on Transparency of Pay will now oblige employers to declare a salary or guarantee of it either in the job advertisement or, at the latest, before the job interview.
