PROJECT STRIIM

Strengthening the Regional Industrial Innovation Model

A sustainable
future is created
together

The STRIIM project aims to find much-needed new and goal-oriented ways to face the challenges involved in the green transition.

To mitigate climate change, the EU is aiming to become carbon-neutral by 2050, while Finland aims for 2035 and the region of Uusimaa for 2030. Here, industry plays a key role in reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

The STRIIM project responds to the needs arising from these climate goals by strengthening the innovative cooperation between operators in Uusimaa. The project’s operating environment is Kilpilahti, Porvoo, home to the largest oil refining and petrochemical cluster in the Nordics. The cluster consists of over 40 companies that provide more than 4,000 jobs. At the same time, it is also one of the largest individual sources of carbon dioxide emissions in Finland.

Project goals

Deepening cooperation between private and public sectors to bring the green transition of Kilpilahti forward.

Supporting the development of the area into a world-class cluster for bio-economy and circular economy.

Enhancing the market and business conditions for companies’ services and production processes by developing a regional concept for plastic recycling.

Supporting sustainable growth and wellbeing in Uusimaa – fostering the region’s vitality.

Project timing
and funding

The project will run from 1 August 2023 to 31 December 2024.

The project is co-funded by the Uusimaa Regional Council through the Supporting sustainable growth and vitality of regions (AKKE funding).
The total budget of the project is EUR 350 327 and it is implemented by Posintra.
